Tribute to The Queen of Melody-Lata Mangeshkar-The Nightingale of India

We all are deeply pained about the sudden demise of Lata Mangeshkar….

She was also known as the Queen of Melody and Nightingale of India.

Early Life:

She was born in 1929 to Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti. Her grandparents were Ganesh Bhatt Navathe Hardikar and Yesubai Rane. Her father adopted the surname Mangeshkar to identify his family with his native town of Mangeshi, situated in Goa. She was named ‘Hema’ at birth but later renamed her as Lata after a female character Latika , in one of her father’s plays. She was the eldest child and her siblings were Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridaynath, all accomplished singers and musicians. She started to work as an actress in her father’s musical plays at the age of five.

Awards

She was awared with the following:
Bharat Rata, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Zee Cine Award for Limetime Achievements, Dadasahed Phalke Award, Maharashtra Bhushan Award, NTR National Award, Legion of Honour, ANR National Award amd three National Film Awards and 15 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards. She wanted to promote fresh talent, and took the big step of giving up the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award.

Death

She died due to organ failure on 6th February 2022.
